A whole community is stepping up.

Across Metro Detroit, grandparents, mentors, pastors, coaches, and neighborhood leaders are joining the Alpha community — not because they have a child to enroll, but because they know what’s at stake for the kids around them.

The numbers are hard to ignore. Michigan ranks 45th in the nation in 8th-grade reading, and roughly 76% of Michigan 8th graders are not reading at grade level. That isn’t a reflection of our kids. It’s a sign that the one-size-fits-all approach isn’t working for too many of them.

Alpha School’s model is built differently: personalized, mastery-based learning where each child moves forward once they truly understand the material — not when the calendar says so. Campuses across the country are already showing what’s possible when school meets kids where they are.

The people who helped raise Detroit are helping raise the bar. By sharing what they’ve learned, joining the community, and telling a young family about Alpha, they’re helping make real learning — not just schooling — something every Detroit child can reach.
